Risk Watch Injury Prevention
Risk Watch is a comprehensive injury-prevention curriculum implemented in our local grade schools. The program is designed to help children and families create safer homes and communities by teaching the skills and knowledge to make positive choices about personal safety and well-being.
Each year, unintentional injuries kill or disable more children between the ages of 1-18 than kidnapping, drugs, and disease combined, making them the #1 health risk facing school-aged children.
Helping to create a link between the classroom and the child’s home/community, teachers are provided with the Risk Watch curriculum to introduce safety topics and Risk Watch Experts come into the classroom to reinforce the lessons.
The below agencies serve as Risk Watch Experts for every public grade school in Champaign, Urbana, and Savoy, and cover the following lessons:
- Champaign Police Department
Motor Vehicle Safety
