Arrest Made in December 9, 2024, Homicide Investigation

A Chicago man is in custody following an investigation into a December 2024 homicide in southwest Champaign. Champaign police were dispatched at 7:50 p.m. on December 9, 2024, to the 2400 block of W. Springfield Avenue for a report of a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers located 21-year-old Heaven Hope with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered medical aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department until she could be transported to an area hospital. Ms. Hope succumbed to her injuries at the hospital a short time later.

The initial investigation indicates that Ms. Hope and a man were entering a business when 24-year-old Carl Tribble Jr. of Chicago opened fire. Hope was struck multiple times, but the man was not struck. Tribble then fled the area on foot. At this time, it is believed that the incident stemmed from an argument outside the business. Tribble was arrested on December 11, 2024, in Farmington, Missouri after a vehicle pursuit that originated in southern Illinois. He remains in custody there, pending transport back to Champaign County, where a warrant has been issued on a charge of First-Degree Murder.

Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. Even though an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
