Academic Year Permits

Academic Year Permits General Information

  • Academic Year Permits are valid starting the first week of August through the middle of May the next year.
  • Academic Year Permits are available for purchase in May either online or in the Parking Programs Office.
  • Academic permits purchased in the Parking Programs Office at 702 Edgebrook Drive, Champaign, will be available for pick up the same day.
  • Academic permits purchased online will be available for pick up after Noon on the following business day.
  • Permits will not be mailed, they must be picked up in person.
  • There is a $10 charge for any type of permit replacement (lost, destroyed, stolen, etc.)

In order to purchase an Academic Year Permit on-street in Areas 1 or 2, you must show proof of residency in the University District Area with a lease for the school year.  Please refer to this document for details on the residency requirements for University District Areas 1 and 2.

After Labor Day, permits in Areas 1 and 2 do not require proof of residency.

There is no residency requirement in Areas 3 or 4.

Academic Year

You may purchase an Academic Year Permit online or in the Parking Programs Office at 702 Edgebrook Drive, beginning in May of each year.

Online Permit Sales

1.  Go to the Online Parking Services Page.
2.  Select Purchase Academic Permit and follow prompts.
3.  Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express are accepted.

Parking Office Permit Sales

1.  Come to the office between 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
2.  Bring the following with you:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Vehicle Registration Card for each vehicle that will be on the permit agreement.
    You may have a maximum of three (3) vehicles on your account.
  • Proof of residency (lease or housing contract) if you are purchasing a permit in University District Area 1 or 2 before Labor Day each year.  Please see this document for details.
  • Payment: Cash, Check, Credit, or Debit (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express), Money Order accepted.

Note:  You will not be sold a permit without this information.

Notes:  Permit rates are subject to change.  Permits are sold for the entire academic year and payment in full is required at the time of purchase.  Fall or spring semester-only permits are not offered; however, permits may be returned for a refund of the unused portion minus a 10 percent administrative fee.  Permits cannot be returned within 30 days of expiration. There is a $10 charge for any type of permit replacement (lost, destroyed, stolen, etc.).


Summer Parking Permits

Summer Permits expire the first Sunday in August.

  • Summer permits will be available in May of each year.
  • Summer permits have NO residency requirement and there is no Permit Request List requirement.
  • All on-street and parking lot spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • There is a $10 charge for any type of permit replacement (lost, destroyed, stolen, etc.).

Summer parking permits will go on sale on in May.  You may purchase your summer permit by going online or you may come into the Public Works Department.

Online Permit Sales

1. Go to the Online Parking Services Page.
2. Select Purchase Summer Permit and follow prompts.
3. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express are accepted.
4. Permits purchased online are available for pick up in the Parking Programs Office after Noon on the next business day.

Parking Office Permit Sales

1. Come to the office at 702 Edgebrook Drive between 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Short-Term/Temporary Permits

  • Short-term/temporary permits are available for 1 to 30 days for parking in the residential area of the University District.
  • Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Permits are non-refundable and non-renewable.
  • Customers requiring permit parking in excess of 30 days should contact the Parking Programs Office to discuss parking options.

  • 1- to 4-day permit is $7.50 per day
  • 5- to 30-day permit is $35.00 flat rate

YOU MUST WAIT 30 CALENDAR DAYS AFTER YOUR TEMPORARY PERMIT EXPIRES TO PURCHASE ANOTHER TEMPORARY PERMIT.

Short-Term/Temporary Permits are sold from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Parking Programs Office.

The following information is needed to obtain a permit and may be submitted in person, by phone, or by email:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Completed application (see above)
  • Copy of valid, current vehicle registration card

YOU MUST WAIT 30 CALENDAR DAYS AFTER YOUR TEMPORARY PERMIT EXPIRES TO PURCHASE ANOTHER TEMPORARY PERMIT.
