Permit Application/Plans Submittal
Submit application with four (4) complete sets of plans and specifications (including all MEPs and site plans). If an alteration and there is no change to exterior dimensions of the building and no site changes, submit three (3) complete sets.

Following are the most common omissions/errors made by design professionals on plan submittals accompanying permit applications. Estimated Plan Review Time
Ten (10) business days from receipt of all material. Plan review time is subject to application and plans being complete and in compliance with all codes and ordinances. Subsequent reviews are five (5) business days.
Commercial and Multi-Family Permit Plan Review Process
The applicant starts and finishes the permit process at the same location. Commercial & Multi-Family permits are processed simultaneously by three City departments in order to make the process more efficient. When a permit applications are submitted to the Building Safety Division at the Champaign Fire Department, they are routed to the individual reviewers that need to review the particular application. The applicant and/or design professional will be contacted by the individual reviewers with questions and comments. The plans and review process are constantly tracked by permitting software which can be monitored by the applicant online. All departments welcome the chance to review particular portions of applications prior to their formal submission in order to make the permitting process proceed smoothly.

Permit Fees
New and addition building permit fees are based on the Permit Fee Schedule. The plan review fee is based on the building volume. There is a 1.5 multiplier for MEP reviews and certain types of permits.
Alteration building permit fees are $6 per $1,000 of construction costs. The plan review fee is .005 x construction costs for alterations over $20,000. Construction costs do not include MEP costs.

No fee is required with the building permit application. Building Safety will calculate the fee during the plan review process. Permit fees are due when the permit is issued. Current Fees and Permit Fee Schedule are also available at the Building Safety office.
Inspections
Required inspections are noted on the permit.
