Commercial and Multi-Family Permit Plan Review Process

The applicant starts and finishes the permit process at the same location. Commercial & Multi-Family permits are processed simultaneously by three City departments in order to make the process more efficient. When a permit applications are submitted to the Building Safety Division at the Champaign Fire Department, they are routed to the individual reviewers that need to review the particular application. The applicant and/or design professional will be contacted by the individual reviewers with questions and comments. The plans and review process are constantly tracked by permitting software which can be monitored by the applicant online. All departments welcome the chance to review particular portions of applications prior to their formal submission in order to make the permitting process proceed smoothly.
