The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a single-family home in the 1300 block of W. Ridge Ln., Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:47 a.m. Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control.
Firefighters responded to a report from a passerby of a fire in this two-story home. Once on the scene, fire crews reported smoke and fire coming from a solar panel on the roof. Multiple hose lines were deployed, and the fire was contained to a solar panel on the exterior of the home.
The cause of this fire was determined to be accidental and was attributed to the solar system on the home. There were no firefighter injuries reported. The occupant was not home at the time of the fire and will not be displaced.
