Freedom of Information Act

Every public body is required to permit inspection or copying of any requested records that are subject to disclosure under the State’s Freedom of Information Act.

Requests for public information and records should be made to the Freedom of Information Office (FOIO) either for the City, Police, METCAD, or the Library via email, mail, fax, or in person.  If you are unsure of where to direct your request, send it to FOIOCity@champaignil.gov.  Contact information for the City’s Freedom of Information Officers is as follows:

  • FOIO – City: (General FOIA requests relative to the operation of the City of Champaign)
    FOIOCity@champaignil.gov
102 North Neil Street, Champaign, Illinois 61820
    217.403.8940
  • FOIO – Library:
    FOIA@champaign.org
200 West Green Street, Champaign, Illinois 61820
    217.403.2050

The Illinois Freedom of Information Act can be reviewed on the Illinois Attorney General’s website. This website is a good source of information about the Freedom of Information Act and how to make requests.
