Two Arrested in Shooting Investigation – 1100 Block of N. Third Street

Two Champaign teenagers have been arrested for their role in a July 15, 2025, shooting incident that left a 14-year-old injured. Champaign Police were dispatched at 5:01 p.m. on July 15, 2025, to the 1100 block of N. Third Street for a report of a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers located a 14-year-old male victim with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers with Champaign Police rendered immediate medical aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The initial investigation indicated that the victim was in the outdoor common area of the apartment complex when multiple subjects approached the victim and opened fire. The victim was struck multiple times by gunfire before the offenders fled the area. A scene was located with evidence of gunfire, including multiple shell casings and damage to a building.

Two subjects were arrested overnight, including a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, both from Champaign. Due to the age of the subjects, Champaign Police cannot share names. Two firearms were recovered during the investigation.

Champaign Police remained in the area for several hours to conduct a thorough canvass, including processing physical evidence, along with seeking potential eyewitnesses and video. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. Even as arrests have been made, the investigation remains ongoing.
