City Hosts Community Gun Violence Response Meeting

In response to a recent uptick in gun violence, the City of Champaign’s Department of Equity & Engagement hosted a Community Gun Violence Response Meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The meeting brought together community members, City leaders, elected officials, and representatives from local non-profit organizations, all united by a shared commitment to safety and healing.

Held as part of the City’s ongoing Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint, the meeting provided a safe and supportive space for residents to voice concerns, share personal experiences, and collaborate on meaningful solutions. Attendees engaged in open dialogue, highlighting the urgent need for community-driven approaches to address the root causes of gun violence.

The City of Champaign remains committed to listening, learning, and leading with equity as we work together to build a safer, stronger community for all. Additional meetings and initiatives will continue throughout the year. Residents are encouraged to stay engaged and take part in future opportunities to be part of the solution.
