The METCAD Telecommunicator of the Year for 2024 was awarded to Amelia Martin. Amelia began working at METCAD in October 2011, and 13 years later, she remains a source of positive energy. She shows up every day, ready to do whatever the job asks of her. She puts forth the effort to learn something new every day, and her coworkers say she is the first to say, “Yes, I’ll help!” This year, Amelia went so far as to request and attend training to learn Active Shooter Protocols, learning everything she can about how to handle responses during high stress situations.
Amelia’s skills go beyond working as a call taker and dispatcher at METCAD. She also dispatches at University of Illinois football games each fall, working outside the comfort of the METCAD console room and with a variety of individuals she doesn’t see on a daily basis.
Amelia knows the job well and encourages others to join her in a career she has come to love. She went so far as to create a mental health booklet for all new hires and their families, listing different aspects of stress, what to look for, and what to do when job stress happens to you. Amelia always goes above and beyond for those around her, and her efforts are definitely appreciated.
