On April 10, 2021, at approximately 5:52 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the intersection of Mattis and Bradley Avenue for reports of a two-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered two seriously damaged vehicles, a Lincoln SUV and a Toyota SUV, that created a significant debris field. The occupants of the Lincoln, a 44-year-old male and 32-year-old male, were transported to a local hospital where they remain in serious but stable condition. The occupant of the Toyota, a 47-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicles were traveling southbound on Mattis Avenue and eastbound on Bradley Avenue when they collided in the intersection. The causes or factors which led to the accident remain under investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made and no citations have been issued.
Illinois State Police are assisting with the investigation and reconstruction of the accident scene.
