Homicide Investigation – 0-20 Block of East Vine Street

On April 10, 2021, at approximately 11:56 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the area of Neil and Vine Street for reports of shots fired. A short time later, at approximately 12:02 a.m. on April 11, METCAD 9-1-1 notified police that a 30-year-old male arrived by personal transport at a local hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was taken into surgery but succumbed to his injuries.

Champaign Police located a scene in the 0-20 block of East Vine Street in a parking lot that is north of the 600 block of North Neil Street. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was found outside of a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds before being taken to the hospital by a personal vehicle. Police are currently processing the crime scene.

Any resident or business in the nearby areas with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. The investigation is ongoing, and future updates may be provided as they become available. No arrests have been made.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for these crimes.
