On April 10, 2021, at approximately 2:23 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1900 block of Southwood Drive for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and discovered a 16-year-old male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left leg. Officers rendered aid and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The preliminary investigation indicates the male was outside of a private residence when he was shot. Information obtained in the investigation suggests the offender arrived on scene in a vehicle, exited, fired upon the victim, and then fled the scene in what is described as a white SUV.
Champaign Police are processing information and evidence and are actively working to identify the circumstances leading up to the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
Any person or business with exterior video surveillance systems in the area is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage could be of investigative assistance.
