City of Champaign Announces Campus Café and Curbside Pickup Zones

In an effort to help Campustown businesses while indoor dining is temporarily closed, the City of Champaign has created Curbside Pickup Zones and Outdoor Dining Café Areas for Campus area businesses on the 500 and 600 blocks of Green Street.

CURBSIDE PICKUP
Similar to Downtown Curbside Pickup Zones, patrons on the north side of the 500 and 600 blocks of East Green Street are now able to order and pay for a product online or by phone and have it delivered to their vehicle in one of 11 designated curbside pickup locations without the need to pay for parking. The City has reserved 11 parking spaces within the Campus Curbside Pickup Zones for the exclusive purpose of allowing customers to pick up pre-placed to-go curbside orders. Patrons should park in the property adjacent to the business and will need to remain in their vehicle and call the business to announce their space number. Customers are highly encouraged to place orders online or over the phone in advance of arriving to pick up their order.

CAMPUS CAFÉ AREAS
Additional outdoor dining areas around Campus and near Kams, Illini Inn, Legends, Murphy’s, and Red Lion have been established. Emergency Order 20-18 allows for the temporary expansion of the City’s popular Outdoor Café Program for the sale and consumption of food and beverage in public outdoor spaces near existing bars and restaurants, including the use of certain sidewalks,  streets, loading zones, and parking spaces. Outdoor Cafés will be permitted to operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the Campus Café Areas. To assist local business owners in understanding the provisions for offering outdoor dining, a set of guidelines have been established. Bar and restaurant owners interested in expanding their service areas on private or public property should review and follow the guidelines, which are posted on the City’s website at champaignil.gov/covid-19.

The City of Champaign encourages our residents to continue patronizing all our local businesses through curbside pickup, outdoor dining cafés, and online or gift card purchases at your favorite establishment.
