The Neighborhood Services Department, in conjunction with CU Area Project, hosted the final Sector Engagement Recruitment Meeting in Garden Hills on January 23, 2016. The Sector Engagement meetings were designed to identify and recruit sector leaders and block captains to assist in citizen participation and engagement efforts, to ensure representation from all sectors of the Garden Hills neighborhood. Twenty-four residents attended the last meeting which was held at Arrowhead Lanes in the Garden Hills neighborhood.
Residents shared a meal and planned sector-based neighborhood connection events in order to promote civic engagement within their sector. Each sector was asked to begin planning a connection event that could be used to engage their neighbors. Ideas that were presented included a cake walk to raise funds for additional community building efforts, a dumpster day to allow residents to dispose of unwanted household items, and an adult social to provide an opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other. The next steps include organizing an orientation with new and existing members of the Garden Hills Executive Committee to be held in February. The orientation will be followed up by a leadership training workshop for executive committee members in March.
