On Oct. 30, 2020, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker appointed Champaign Chief of Police Anthony Cobb to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Chief Cobb is slated to serve as a member on the board until August 2023.

As a board member, Chief Cobb will play a crucial role in the professionalization of policing in Illinois. The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board is the state agency mandated to promote and maintain a high level of professional standards for law enforcement and correctional officers. Among the responsibilities of the board are developing and providing quality training and education, setting standards, aiding in the establishment of adequate training facilities, and providing financial assistance.
“I’m honored to join a board comprised of public servants who are proven leaders in their community and in their profession,” said Chief of Police Anthony Cobb. “It’s important for law enforcement to be able to readily and quickly adapt to our rapidly changing society, and this board will allow me to help strengthen policing standards and training throughout Illinois and to continue the great work we have already begun in the city of Champaign. I’m excited for the opportunity ahead.”
