Shooting Investigation – 1100 Block of North Sixth Street

On Nov. 2, 2020, at approximately 4:53 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1100 Block of North Sixth Street for reports of shots heard. Upon arrival, officers located multiple spent shell casings near the intersection of Sixth Street and Beardsley Avenue. At approximately 4:58 p.m., officers were notified a 24-year-old male arrived at a local hospital by personal transport. The male sustained a single gunshot wound to his head and is receiving treatment. The injury is not currently believed to be life threatening. 

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was walking southbound in the 1100 block of North Sixth Street when the unknown suspect(s) began firing multiple rounds. Additional property damage was identified to a vehicle and to multiple private residences.

Any resident or business in the nearby areas with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for these crimes.
