South Mattis Avenue Reconstruction (Windsor Road to Curtis Road)

On Monday, April 13, 2026 construction will begin on south Mattis Avenue from Windsor Road to Curtis Road. This work has been contracted to William Charles Construction, of Rockford, Illinois. The approximate $8.5M project is being funded by a combination of local funds and Federal Surface Transportation – Urban (STU) funds, administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Planned improvements include upgrading the corridor to arterial street standards with new concrete pavement, curb and gutter, storm sewers, street lighting, on-street bike lanes, and a multi-use path. The project is located fully within the City of Champaign. The work will be completed under full closure for the duration, from April 13 through December 4, 2026 with a planned completion from the northern limit to the southern limit. Appropriate detours will be marked but generally, neighborhoods and businesses along Curtis Road will still be accessible via Duncan Road or Prospect Avenue.

The City of Champaign appreciates the cooperation of travelers in the area and encourages caution when traveling in proximity to a work zone.
