The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a 16-unit multi-family apartment building in the 2000 block of Cynthia Dr., Monday, October 6, at 3:54 p.m. Fire crews were able to quickly locate and extinguish this hidden fire.
Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a utility room in this two-story apartment building. Once on the scene, firefighters reported smoke in multiple apartments and searched to find its source. Crews quickly located the fire in the walls between apartment units. A second alarm was called as firefighters extended multiple hose lines to work to extinguish the fire.
The cause of this fire is not determined as investigators remain on scene conducting their investigation. One occupant was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. There were no firefighter injuries reported.
