Second Victim Dies Following June 29, 2025, Shooting Homicide

The Champaign Police Department is saddened to share on behalf of the Champaign County Coroner’s Office that the second victim in a June 29 shooting homicide tragically succumbed to his injuries at 8:37 a.m. on the morning of July 7, 2025. An active investigation into this incident remains ongoing, and Champaign Police continue to seek assistance from the community in identifying those responsible for this loss of life. At the request of the family, the name of the second juvenile victim is not being released.

Officers were dispatched at 12:01 a.m. on June 29, 2025, to Holly Hill Drive following a report of a shooting with injuries. As officers searched the area, they quickly located two teens from Champaign unconscious in the front yard of a residence in the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive with life-threatening gunshot wounds. The officers immediately rendered medical aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department until both could be transported to an area hospital. One victim, a sixteen-year-old male, tragically succumbed to his injuries on June 29, 2025. The second victim, also a sixteen-year-old male, remained hospitalized in critical condition until today, July 7, 2025, when he tragically passed away.
