Champaign Police Seek Assistance in June 29, 2025, Homicide Investigation

Champaign Police are seeking assistance from the community to investigate an overnight shooting incident that left one Champaign teenager dead and a second in critical condition.

Officers were dispatched at 12:01 a.m. on June 29, 2025, to an unknown address on Holly Hill Drive following a report of a shooting with injuries. As officers searched the area, they quickly located two sixteen-year-old male teenagers from Champaign unconscious in the front yard of a residence in the 1500-block of Holly Hill with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. The officers immediately rendered medical aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department until the teens could be transported to an area hospital. There, one victim tragically succumbed to his injuries, and the second victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

At this time, there is very little information about what happened in this incident. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance.
