Shooting Investigation – Stratford Dr & Trafalgar Square

Champaign Police were dispatched at 7:14 p.m. on March 26, 2025, to the 2800 block of W. Kirby Avenue after a report of shots fired in the area. On-scene, officers found no injured parties but quickly located evidence of gunfire at the intersection of Stratford Drive and Trafalgar Square nearby. A short time later, at 7:28 p.m., a 22-year-old Champaign man contacted police through dispatch to indicate that he had been struck by gunfire. Officers and medical personnel responded to his location to ensure prompt medical intervention for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to an area hospital and later released.

The initial investigation indicates that the victim was in a parking lot when shots were fired from a vehicle, and he was struck. While the motive of this incident is still unknown, this is not believed to be a random incident. Officers continue to seek witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
