April 10-12, 2024, April Faulkner, Community Relations Specialist with the Equity and Engagement Department, attend the 15th annual Welcoming Interactive in Dallas, Texas. This Interactive, hosted by Welcoming America, is dedicated to immigrant and refugee inclusion in every facet of American life. The conference brought together more than 800 participants from around the United States and even some from other countries. The first of the three day event included tours of the community which highlighted culturally responsive civic engagement, economic empowerment, mental health services, and civil rights to immigration reform; just to name a few. The next two days boasted 30 breakout sessions and multiple plenary sessions in which participants got to learn about best practices and innovations surrounding everything from language access, immigrant youth leadership, empowering resilience, and much more.
