The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a multi-family apartment building at 2614 W Springfield Ave., Friday, September 29, at 4:18 a.m. Fire crews worked to extinguish this fire that originated on the third floor.
Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a three-story building with fire showing from the roof. En route, this fire was upgraded to second alarm. Once on the scene, fire crews reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the building. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and kept the fire from extending into the adjacent building.
The cause of this fire has not been determined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. The occupants of this 12-unit building will be displaced.
