Fatal Traffic Crash – Intersection of Green and State Street

Champaign Police were dispatched at 11:01 p.m. on July 12, 2023, to the intersection of Green and State Street for a report of an Accident with Injuries. On-scene, officers found a single-vehicle rollover accident in the westbound lane. A 42-year-old man from Champaign was found unconscious inside the vehicle, having sustained multiple injuries in the crash. Officers with the Champaign Police Department immediately rendered medical aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department personnel. The man was transported to an area hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. One other vehicle occupant sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital. She remains in stable condition.

Champaign Police continue to investigate the cause of this traffic crash. Witnesses in the area confirm that this was a single-vehicle crash. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. The investigation remains ongoing.
