The Code Compliance Division of the Neighborhood Services Department recently toured the Idea Garden at the University of Illinois Arboretum. The inspectors attended to become more familiar with some common alternative vegetation. There is an area in front of the main garden that has some examples of alternative vegetation that is appropriate for planting in the parkway. The City’s Municipal Code has height limitations for alternative vegetation in the parkway (foliage up to 24-inches in height and blooms up to 36-inches in height). The Idea Garden is a resource that residents can be directed to if their current alternative vegetation does not meet the City’s standards.
