On Wednesday September 14th, the Champaign Community Coalition held its monthly meeting and heard from community organizations about initiatives to support our youth and families including Youth For Christ, Douglass Library, and the Youth Assessment Center. Additional presenters included the University YMCA New American Welcome Center who shared information about Welcoming Week 2022, and Uniting Pride who joined to share information about Pride Fest and other resources for LGBTQ+ community members. Law enforcement leadership from Champaign, Urbana, the U of I, Parkland, and the Sheriff’s Office shared updates regarding community violence and other initiatives. A panel discussion was held with the principals from Central, Centennial, and Urbana High Schools. The panel explored successes and challenges that they, their staff, and their students, face in this age of education.
