City Staff Respond to Recent Incidents of Community Gun Violence

On September 7, 2022, staff from the Community Safety and Justice Division (Equity and Engagement) hosted a community meeting at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in response to a series of recent shootings near the Garden Hills neighborhood.  Residents were informed of Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint resources to help address issues and find solutions to acts of community violence.  Staff met with neighborhood residents to show care and support to those who may not know what to do or where to go for assistance.

Staff responds to gun-related events to engage with Champaign residents and link families to resources in an effort to reduce violence in Champaign.  Also in attendance were the City’s Neighborhood Ambassadors (Neighborhood Services) and representatives from Trauma and Resilience Initiative (TRI).
