Residential Fire – 1220 Gertrude Ave.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a home at 1220 Gertrude Ave., August 1, at 1:49 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire in this single-family home.

Firefighters responded to a report from a neighbor of a fire in this single-story home. Once on the scene, firefighters reported smoke and fire coming from the eaves of the residence. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire primarily contained to the attic.

The cause of this fire has not been determined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. Two adults were in the home at the time the fire started. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. The occupants of the home will be displaced because of the damage.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds everyone to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
