Champaign Police Investigating Two Shooting Incidents

Champaign Police are seeking community assistance in the investigation of two shooting incidents. At this time, it is not known if there is any relationship between these incidents.

On July 30, 2022, at approximately 9:08 p.m., Champaign Police responded to multiple reports of a shooting with injuries in the 1100 Block of N. Third Street. As they arrived on-scene, officers were notified of vehicles arriving at an area hospital carrying two victims with gunshot wounds. The victims included a 26-year-old male from Champaign suffering from multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and a minor child suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Both victims were treated and are presently listed in stable condition. The initial investigation indicated that the male victim was outside, and the child was playing outside nearby when the shooting occurred. Additionally, one building was struck. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

On July 31, 2022, at approximately 5:49 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the scene of a shooting with injuries in the 1200 Block of Alberta Parkway. Arriving officers were notified of a vehicle arriving at an area hospital carrying a 17-year-old female victim from Champaign with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso. The victim is presently listed in stable condition. The initial investigation indicated that the victim was in her vehicle in the 1200 block of Alberta Parkway when she was shot through the door. Two houses were struck Reports on-scene indicate that three unknown males were seen fleeing the area, headed northbound on foot. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

In each case, officers completed a canvass of the surrounding area, but residents and businesses nearby with exterior surveillance camera systems are encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards of $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest in any homicide case, $2,500 for tips leading to an arrest in a felony crime involving a firearm, and up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for any other crime.
