Officers from the Champaign Police Department were dispatched to the 800-block of Maple Street at 12:59 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022, for a report of a shooting with injury. Upon arrival, officers located a 65-year-old male Champaign resident with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his arm. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until the victim could be transported to an area hospital, where he is presently listed in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was seated in his car on the street when shots were fired from a vehicle traveling east on Maple Street. The vehicle then fled the area. A canvass was conducted in the surrounding area, but any resident or business nearby with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department immediately. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
