Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments to Participate in Joint Training

The Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments will participate in joint high-rise training, July 12-14, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Sherman Hall, 909 S. Fifth St. Skill stations will include a review of supplying water to a fire department connection and fire pumps, hose deployment, and the exploration of ventilation methods. Chief officers and fire department Captains will focus on incident command strategies for high-rise fires.

Crews will rotate through skills stations in either the morning or afternoon session. Each crew will have an opportunity to rotate through each session lasting 40 minutes.

If the fire alarm sounds in a building, get out and stay out. It is important to know the locations of all the exit stairs from a high-rise building. If the nearest one is blocked by fire or smoke, you may have to use another exit. Close all doors behind you as you leave to help stop the spread of smoke and fire.
