City of Champaign to Perform Outdoor Warning Siren Maintenance

UPDATE: Due to the inclement weather forecasted overnight, the outdoor warning siren maintenance has been canceled for July 12 and 13, 2022. Further information will be provided once the maintenance is rescheduled with the contractor.

The City of Champaign will have contractors performing annual outdoor warning siren maintenance to each of the fifteen sirens in the City’s alerting system on July 12 and 13, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Part of this maintenance requires that the contractor activate the warning sirens for short periods of time, not to exceed thirty seconds, to ensure proper performance during emergencies. Should an actual emergency exist, the warning sirens will activate as normal, for a period exceeding two minutes.

Remember, if you are outside when a warning siren sounds, seek shelter right away. Don’t wait. Remain in shelter for thirty minutes after the sirens stop sounding. If the sirens sound again during the thirty minutes, begin a new thirty-minute period.
