On October 30, 2021, at approximately 3:52 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified male with a single life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. Officers provided CPR and medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates a group of individuals were gathered near an abandoned residence. The group moved to the backyard of the residence and gunfire ensued. The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival. The victim was located by officers inside of the abandoned residence.
Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
