On September 8th the Champaign County Community Coalition hosted its monthly virtual meeting. Representatives from the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the University of Illinois and Parkland College shared updates with the community, with a particular focus on recent community gun violence. Tracy Parsons gave updates regarding the Race Relations Subcommittee’s development of a strategic plan. Mary Catherine Roberson shared updates regarding several initiatives related to community violence. Dr. Jennifer Ivory-Tatum (Urbana Schools) and Dr. Sheila Boozer (Champaign Schools) shared information related to back to school. Julie Pryde (CU Public Health), Carla Boyd (City of Urbana), Mindy Cain and Laura Weis (Chamber of Commerce), Elizabeth Cook (Courage Connection), and Reginald Hardwick (Illinois Public Media) were also in attendance to give Coalition updates.
