On September 10, 2021, the City released the latest episode of The Mayor Feinen Podcast, which featured the Mayor’s conversation with Jes DeVries (Director of Immigrant Family Services at the University YMCA New American Welcome Center) to preview this year’s Welcoming Week. Welcoming Week kicked off on September 10 and runs through September 19.
Welcoming Week is a series of events that hope to bring together the US born and immigrant community members. This year’s theme is “Belonging Begins with US.” It is hoped that the events this week creates a feeling of belonging in for everyone in our community. In the podcast, Jes shares about the purpose and history of Welcoming Week, some of her favorite events, the Welcoming Awards, and what you can do to help make it a safe an fun event. This year’s events were a hybrid of outdoor in-person and virtual events
