Shooting Investigation – 1200 block of Providence Circle

On June 13, 2021, at approximately 10 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1200 block of Providence Circle for the report of shots fired. While investigating the report, police were notified at approximately 10:24 p.m. that a 17-year-old male arrived at a local hospital by personal transport with a single non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his chest. The victim remains at the hospital in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates the shooting event occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex. A total of 14 shell casings from two different caliber firearms were recovered by police at the scene. Multiple apartments and vehicles were additionally struck by gunfire. Only one victim has been reported to police.

Any resident or business in the nearby areas with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
