On June 5, 2021, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the area of Fifth Street and Beardsley Avenue for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 17-year-old male seated in a vehicle. Officers learned the victim had sustained life-threatening injuries during this event and was
transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim would later succumb to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was seated in a vehicle when multiple rounds were fired in the direction of his vehicle, fatally striking the victim. Police processed the scene and the investigation continues. No arrests have been made at this time. Any resident or business in the nearby areas with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.
