On Nov. 29, 2020, at approximately 3:26 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1200 block of West Eureka Street for an unknown problem. Upon arrival, officers observed several vehicles fleeing the area and discovered evidence consistent with a shooting. Police were soon informed a 28-year-old male victim arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
The preliminary investigation indicates there was a large gathering inside of a private residence. During the gathering, a physical altercation broke out which led to the shooting. Police are currently processing the crime scene and interviewing possible witnesses.
Any resident or business in the nearby areas with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
