Shooting Investigation – 1200 Block of Joanne Lane

On July 13, 2020, at approximately 10:07 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1200 block of Joanne Lane for the report of shots heard. Upon arrival, officers located .40 caliber and 9mm shell casings in the roadway in front of a private residence and vehicle damage was identified to parked cars. No injuries were reported to police on scene, but officers were soon notified a 31-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with a single non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his buttocks.

Initial information obtained from the victim indicated he was at a gathering in the front yard of a private residence when the suspect(s) approached and opened fire. A white Chevy Malibu was observed leaving the area at a high rate of speed and was last seen driving northbound on Prospect Avenue approaching Bloomington Road.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
