Shooting Investigation – 1600 Block of Valley Road

On July 11, 2020, at approximately 10:18 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1600 block of Valley Road for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 21-year-old male inside an apartment building with a life-threatening gunshot wound to his head. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He remains hospitalized and in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was walking in the hallway of the apartment building when he was fired upon from a stairwell doorway by two suspects. One of the suspects was described as wearing a mask and an orange sweatshirt.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
