Large Development Projects to Submit COVID-19 Jobsite Safety Plan

Under the Governor’s Executive “Stay at Home” Order, construction is listed as an essential service. As such, many private and public construction projects in Champaign continue to move forward. In compliance with the order, the City of Champaign continues to accept building permits and perform inspections of active construction projects. To best protect the health of on-site construction workers and City inspectors, the City’s Building Safety Division is requiring contractors of the larger development projects currently underway in Champaign to submit a COVID-19 Jobsite Safety Plan. Using guidance from Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), contractors will be required to demonstrate how they will provide accommodations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 for workers and inspectors prior to arriving at the jobsite, while on the jobsite and upon leaving the jobsite. COVID-19 Jobsite Safety Plans will be required on specified projects by April 10 and will remain in effect as long as the Stay at Home order is in effect for Illinois. For more information on this requirement, contact Randy Smith, Building Safety Supervisor at 217-403-6105 or at [email protected].
