The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 602 S Duncan Road, Unit A, Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 8:00 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished a fire in the kitchen of the townhome.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the kitchen of the home. Once on the scene, crews could see a fire on the stove beginning to extend to the rest of the kitchen. Firefighters deployed a single hose line and quickly extinguished the fire.
This accidental fire was caused by unattended cooking. Occupants of the townhome have been displaced because of this fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, boiling, or broiling food. If you do have a cooking fire, get out and close the door behind you to help contain the fire.
