Champaign Fire Department Receives National Award for Effective and Engaging Social Media Campaign

The City of Champaign is proud to announce that the Champaign Fire Department received a first place award from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) for last winter’s “Meet Ember the Elf” social media campaign. The first place “Savvy Award” was awarded to the City in the Social Media-Best Campaign Use category during the 2019 3CMA Conference held last week in Denver, Colorado.

The Savvy Awards, celebrated in conjunction with 3CMA’s Annual Conference, recognize outstanding local government achievements in communications, public-sector marketing and citizen-government relationships. The Savvies salute skilled and effective city, county, agency or district professionals who have creatively planned and carried out successful innovations in communications and marketing. 3CMA accommodates local government organizations of all sizes and budget classes by judging entries in several different population groups. Over 700 entries in 40 categories were received this year.

“Ember the Elf” will return to Champaign this holiday season and continue his quest to incorporate holiday safety messaging with lighthearted antics. While Ember is unavailable for comment, he did inform Champaign Fire Chief Gary Ludwig that he will bring additional friends this season.
