On Thursday, May 23, the Neighborhood Services Department partnered with the Champaign Park District to host the first in a series of neighborhood-based block parties to be held this summer. The event was held at Country Brook Apartments. Attendees enjoyed face painting, bounce houses, pizza, dance contests and musical entertainment from DJ Fireproof. Champaign Police and Fire were there handing out treats to kids and engaging with attendees. The block parties offer a way for the City, the Champaign Park District, and other partnering agencies to engage with residents of neighborhoods that lack a neighborhood park and other programs, connecting them with resources available throughout the City. Additional block parties are scheduled as follows:
- June 20 – Town Center Apartments
- July 25 – Johnston Park
