Community Coalition Hosts Exhibition and Presentation on African-American History 

On Saturday April 27, Tracy Parsons, Community Relations Manager and Community Coalition Facilitator hosted a public event offering an opportunity to learn about the preservation of African-American history in Central Illinois. The event, “Embracing Your Past, Finding a New Horizon” featured speaker Evelyn Hood, from the African-American Cultural & Genealogical Society of Illinois, Inc. Museum in Decatur.  It was presented by the Champaign Community Coalition.

The event was held from 1-3 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, 500 E Park St., Champaign. It was free and open to the public, and included refreshments, live music, and curated displays on African-American history from other local museums.

This event was sponsored by the Champaign Community Coalition, Champaign County NAACP, Champaign County History Museum, Museum of the Grand Prairie, Salem Baptist Church of Champaign, and First Mennonite Church of CU.
