Champaign Police Make Arrest in Homicide Investigation

Today, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Champaign Police Department Detectives with the assistance of the Street Crimes Task Force arrested Darrion White (pictured), 19, of Champaign, in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old David Sankey.

On Aug. 28, 2018, at approximately 8:31 p.m., Champaign Police Officers responded to Paula Drive and Larkspur Lane after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, police found a teenage male, later identified as Mr. Sankey, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to Carle Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Champaign Police developed information which led to a court authorized arrest warrant for First-Degree Murder for White. He was apprehended in the 600 block of Crescent Drive without incident. White was transported to the Champaign County Jail where he is awaiting future court proceedings. Bond on the warrant was set at $1 million.

The Champaign Police Department would like to thank the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office for its assistance during this investigation.
