The Champaign Community Coalition encourages the public to attend their next monthly meeting and to engage in a meaningful conversation about race and race relations. The meeting will feature speaker Kelly Wickham Hurst, who is a National Organizer and Trainer for Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training, where she facilitates conversations and learning about anti-racism, critical cultural competency, and anti-bias education. The meeting will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at the Champaign Public Library (200 W. Green St., Champaign) and starts at 3:30 p.m.
“Discussing race and race relations is one of the most difficult subjects for people to talk about,” said Tracy Parsons, facilitator of the Champaign Community Coalition. “But as a community it’s important that we have these open and honest dialogues and continue to engage with one another on the topic of race. I’m proud of the tremendous work the members of the Community Coalition have done to facilitate these challenging discussions and we invite everyone to attend Wednesday’s meeting and to join in the conversation.”
The Champaign Community Coalition has previously engaged the community in conversations about race by sponsoring 16 screenings of the film Racial Taboo, which were attended by more than 1,600 residents.
