On Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at approximately 5:27 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 2000 block of N. Market Street following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police learned a 20-year-old male had suffered life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Champaign Police are processing evidence from the scene and actively working to identify the circumstances leading up to the incident. Preliminary information suggests the shooting was a result of a verbal argument. There is no suspect information available currently.
The investigation remains in its early stages and police may provide updates as they become available.
