Spring 2018 Electronics Collection Wrap-Up

Spring 2018 Electronics Collection Wrap-Up

The spring Residential Electronics Collection Event was on Saturday, May 19 at Parkland College. The bi-annual event is co-sponsored by City of Champaign, City of Urbana, Village of Savoy, Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, and Champaign County Probation and Court Services. The sponsors contracted with A-Team Recyclers, LLC, out of Joliet, to collect, process, and recycle the unwanted electronic items collected.

The online pre-registration system was once again utilized. Each registrant was able to bring a total of 10 electronic items, with a two TV limit. A total of 161,796 pounds (80.9 tons) of unwanted electronic items were collected. TVs collected represented 65 percent of the total electronics collected. Based on the registration postcards, collected at the entry point, approximately 1,290 participants came out of the 1,545 registrants.

Each collection event is a no-cost opportunity for residents to dispose of unwanted electronics and TVs of all shapes and sizes. There are local year-round recycling options for most other electronics and certain types/sizes of TVs. Visit the City’s recycling webpage for more information. The fall collection event will be on Saturday, October 13, with the online pre-registration opening on Monday, September 10.
