City of Champaign Responds to FOIA Request Regarding Alton Corey Lawsuit

On October 17, 2017, at approximately 10:41 PM, Champaign Police responded to the 1500 block of Kiler Dr., Champaign for the report of a battery, resulting in the arrest of Alton Corey.

On May 23, 2018, a lawsuit was served by Corey (plaintiff) against the City of Champaign and Police Officers William Killin and Dillon Holloway related to this incident.  “The City’s Legal Department is reviewing the complaint and gathering all relevant information regarding the pending litigation,” stated Assistant City Attorney Jennifer Bannon.  “The City of Champaign and the Champaign Police Department take these allegations very seriously.”

The City of Champaign recognizes the community’s interest in this matter.  In response to a Freedom of Information Act request from the media, and in keeping with the City’s commitment of transparency to our community, related documents and videos of the incident have been made available to the public on the City’s website at: champaignil.gov/case18-cv-2140.
